Innovative Multi-Pack Beer Case

Share

Interesting multi-pack concept Heineken used to market a six pack of beer with a special 1.5L bottle. Heineken obviously has a lot of options when it comes to packaging--but I think this could be easily adopted to wine. 2 375ml's and 1 750ml. 2 750's and a 1.5L.

Here are the specs from an article at Packaging Digest:

"Smurfit Kappa Olomouc constructed a multi-pack from three layers corrugated B flute board with inside dimensions of 321x141x383 mm (12.64”x5.55”x15.08”). Note, that all bottles stand upright. The box height is the height of the premium bottle, the box width the sum of the diameters of two small bottles, and the box length the sum of the diameter of the premium bottle and the diameters of three small bottles.

To secure the bottles and in particular the premium bottle a window was created at one of the corners of the box. By pushing the material inside the insert for the gift bottle became part of the packaging and allowed visualization of the bottle itself. The pushed-in insert also secures the six smaller bottles in the pack.

To solve the problem with the differences in bottle height, Smurfit Kappa created a crate-like top with double folding flaps, which lie on top of the 6 small bottles and feature a hole to secure the large bottle once more."

"Pernod Ricard UK is to launch Jacob’s Creek wines in 50cl bottles, after the group's consumer research showed demand is rising for smaller bottle sizes.

Pernod's UK division said today (14 September) that it is launching 50cl versions of its Jacob's Creek Three Vines range, to be available from now and priced at GBP4.99 (US$8.2).

The move follows consumer research, completed by UK-based agency Wine Intelligence for Pernod, that shows rising demand for 50cl bottles as an alternative to the traditional 75cl size."

Pernod's research also states that consumers (more than one in five) would prefer a 500ml bottle over bag-in-box, pouch or a single 250ml serving.

This is following on the heels of Concha y Toro releasing 500ml versions of its Casillero del Diablo brand.

To Russia with Love (in a Can)

Share

I wouldn't say that wine-in-a-can is exactly booming, but it has been steadily growing over the years. The convienance of it can't be denied--but will consumers flock to it in a large-scale way?

From packagingnews.co.uk:

Russian wine supplier Marine Express has chosen a 250ml slim cans from Rexam for a new wine launch.Read more...

The Elsa brand, a semi-sweet white Liebfrauenmilch, is the first wine in a can to be launched by the distributor, and will be followed by semi-sparkling Lambrusco red and white wines from Italy. Elsa was previously sold in 750ml glass bottles.

Rexam is producing the cans, which feature a matt varnish, at its Recklinghausen plant in Germany.

Marine Express chief executive Andrey Kuzmin said Russian consumers still preferred traditional cork closures to screw caps on wine bottles, but thought the firm could "demonstrate the clear benefits of packaging wine in a can", including convenience.

The launch of the wine will be supported by advertisements in underground stations and the internet, as well as point-of-sale promotions. The target market is mainly women aged 25 to 35.

Premium Cava Design from Holmes & Marchant

From Packagingnews.co.uk:

Holmes & Marchant brands premium Cava range | Design |packagingnews.co.uk
Freixenet, the Spanish wine producer, has turned to Holmes & Marchant to create the brand identity, packaging and label for a new range Read more...of premium Cava due to hit UK shelves later this month.

Holmes & Marchant also named the new Elyssia range, which comprises a rosé Pinot Noir Brut and white Gran Cuvée Brut.

The Marlow-based design and packaging innovation company created a smaller label than is usually found on wine or Cava bottles. The label is joined to the bottle neck with a ribbon and features a range of glossy varnishes, designed to make it stand apart from the matt and gold of Freixenet's Cordon Negro range.

Holmes & Marchant chairman Andrew Doyle said: "The idea that runs throughout the design is one of preciousness. The small label and rich materials mimic the idea of jewels, and mean that a consumer needs to pick up and handle the product."

James Dress, international group product manager at Freixenet, said Holmes & Marchant "really understood the nature of the luxurious product that we were trying to create".
